New Jersey was well represented this past weekend, sending 11 teams down
to Disney, 9 teams advanced to finals on Sunday, and three brought medals
back to the garden state!  World Cup Starlites and Shooting Stars, both
with silver medals and South Jersey Storm with a bronze medal!

Just missing the cut coming in 47th place after Saturday’s performance in
the combined small senior division All Star One did not advance to sunday.
Going into Sunday’s performances Comet Allstars were in 25th, New Jersey
Spirit Explosion in 23rd, JuST Cheer in 17th, and Central Jersey in 14th.
Just Cheer hit a flawless routine in finals bumping their placement up to
11th, being one spot away from getting called up to the floor during the
awards ceremony.  NJSE had minor tumbling issues but were still able to
move up to secure 17th place.  While CJA’s Stunt fall and out of bounds
dropped them back to 22nd, the Comet Allstars tumbling touchdowns bumped
them to 33rd.  The winner of this division was clear when they were the
only team previously in the top 5 to not have issues in their final
performance,  The Stingray Allstars became the first team to grab four
consecutive world championships.

Placing 4th in Lg Ltd. after finals World Cup Odyssey finished the weekend
in 8th place after having a stunt fall in finals.  Claiming the title of
World Champions were Spirit of Texas.  TNT Allstars did not advance to
finals, coming in 20th after their preliminary performance.

South Jersey Storm Semi-Ltd was in 5th after Saturday’s preliminary
performance but was able to “bump it up two spots” past Tribe Cheer and
Brandon to bring home the Bronze medal! Congratulations SJS!

Star Athletics went into prelims in 16th place, finishing in 17th place in
the Small Senior Ltd. Division.

World Cup Starlites were in first place after both trials and prelims
saturday morning but had a stunt fall, bobble, and tumbling touch down
that allowed the Maryland Twisters Supercells to slip past them into the
top spot.  Starlites finished in 2nd, bringing the silver medal back to
NJ! Congrats Lites!

World Cup Shooting Stars went down this weekend to “grab number 4″ but
came up short of first place to Cheer Extreme Senior Elite.  Stars
performances were filled with entertainment as they had the entire arena
on their feet both days, and even a third time as they performed for the
cameras of ESPN.  Though they would have liked to join the Stingrays with
4 consecutive world championship wins, they should still be proud of the
silver medal in a highly competitive division.

All in all New Jersey had a very successful weekend at the World
Championships, we look forward to seeing some of the talent from this
great state on the ESPN broadcasts over the summer.  Airdates should be
posted on USASF.net, but we will keep you all informed.

As for now, TRYOUTS TRYOUTS TRYOUTS!  Can’t wait to see what everyone has
in store for next season.  With all of the changes going on, team
placements, new additions of teammates and staff.. there are bound to be
some headlining stories so keep checking for updates!

It will be a LONG weekend for those headed to Baltimore, with the first team’s performance at 7:37 am and the final awards ceremony at 10:15pm.  Updated schedules have been posted and it looks like the Jersey Devils will be joining the South Jersey Storm, World Cup, Rocket Elite, CC Champs, TNT,
JC Liberty, CJA, NJSE, and Jersey All Stars who were all on the prelim schedule.  Jersey will be well represented down in MD as these ten gyms bring it to Baltimore!

Sunday Schedule

As April comes to an end so does the 2009-2010 competition season.  These
last few competitions will be an emotional time for many athletes and
families in the state and across the nation.  We wish the best to all of
those finishing their season or all star cheerleading career down in
Baltimore.  Good Luck to all Seniors as they move on to greater things,
may you always remember the bumps and bruises that you pushed though, the
triumphs that made it worth it, experiences, lessons, memories, and
everlasting friendships that you have made along the way.  We may all be
from separate gyms, but our love for the sport is all the same, and the
ending of a season is always saddening.  But with the closing of a door,
comes the opening of another!

While most gyms are finishing their season, the level 5 athletes from our
11 Jersey teams headed to worlds are just gearing up for the competition
of their lives.  With only a tentative schedule posted right now anxieties
are building in anticipation of the preliminary line up.  We will have the
link to that posted as soon as it becomes available.

Also, several NJ gyms will be sending some of their teams to represent
them at the All Level Championships or US Finals.  More info on that will
be posted as it becomes available.  If you are one of those teams, send us
an email so that we can send an update before the schedule is posted!

Good Luck to all this weekend and next!

New Jersey Tryouts

Tryouts are just around the corner! If you are interested in joining an
all star cheerleading team, or finding a new gym to call home be sure to
check out all of your options.  Each gym has a different atmosphere and
style that may not suit everyone.  Message boards are full of people
pulling for their gym and starting rumors about others, but the best way
to know if it is right for you is to visit and watch a practice or speak
to the owners and coaches yourself.  Make your own informed decisions!

In Atlanta, Central Jersey Allstars took the Small Senior 5 division 2 over 12 other teams at Cheersport Nationals, beating out the reigning World champs, the Stingray Allstars. World Cup Twinkles, Youth 5, were the only other NJ team to grab victory at this competition with over 900 teams in attendance. A few weeks later, in Dallas, TX, the World Cup Shooting Stars came home with their first National Championship title from NCA since 2004 in the Large Senior 5 division. Check out their winning performances:

Cheerleading WorldsAlthough many gyms are winding down their season right now, practices are still as intense as ever for the eleven level 5 teams from NJ heading to worlds. Representing the Garden State in Orlando in 2 weeks will be:

The 3-time Reigning World Champions of the Large Senior 5 Division – World Cup Shooting Stars. Stars received their fully paid worlds bid in January at the Athletic Championships National Competition in Providence, R.I. Also representing New Jersey on a Full Paid bid is New Jersey Spirit Explosion in the Small Senior 5 division who received their bid earlier last month at The Coastal Corporation’s Battle at the Capitol Nationals.
Full Paid bids cover travel expenses for teams and two coaches up to $25,000. The other two NJ teams that were lucky enough to earn these highly coveted bids this season were South Jersey Storm’s Semi-Limited and Star Athletics Small Limited. SJS received their bid at The Coastal Corporation’s Battle at the Capitol in March, while Star Athletics were lucky enough to secure their spot at worlds early, as they received their bid at Cheer Tech’s Spirit Nationals in December.
Heading down to Florida on a Partial Paid bid from ECC is TNT Allstars in the Large Limited Division, as well as the Small Senior team from Just Cheer, who will be representing Universal Spirit. The rest of the NJ teams will be attending the competition on an At-Large bid. For the first time ever World Cup Odyssey; representing UCA in the Large Limited division, is in that mix, as they have previously always attended on a Full Paid bid. World Cup is also sending their Large Junior team, Starlites, who were one of eleven junior teams attending the competition. The junior teams were all judged and selected by video submissions, this is the first year of this technique, and rumored to possibly be the last year of a junior division at The Cheerleading Worlds.
Representing Jersey as the only level six team heading to Disney is South Jersey Storm’s International Coed. SJS received their bid at The Coastal Corporation’s Battle at the Capitol the first week of March.
Central Jersey Allstars, All Star One and the Comet Allstars will all be representing NJ on their At-Large Bids. CJA received their bid back in December at Cheer Tech’s Spirit Nationals, while Comets and As1 both received their bids from Cheersport at their National Competition in February.
Sitting this one out for the first year in the Small Senior division will be Jersey Devils All Stars, who competed in Large Senior the past two seasons, as well as the first year level five team, Gems Cheer Stars Small Limited Coed.
